Hi all!
I wanted to get your perspective on how you record/export your videos for idea pins. As an android user, it is such a struggle to maintain good video quality when uploading to online. Often, I can record in 4k, but sites tend to compress video (I know why they do that and I know why android videos are uploaded worse too).
On a popular social media site, I often don't record in super high quality because the site compresses the video even worse when I do so. I am kinda wondering if the same happens here on Pinterest. I always try to follow the best practices specs for Pinterest, but fps and resolution (1080, 2k, 4k) aren't mentioned explicitly.
And yes, I do try to record in bright light to maintain better quality. I've also tried different export settings to see what looks better to me. I always record in high quality and I'm constantly running out of storage for it. 😅
With that being said, in what quality resolution do you record your content? Moreover, what resolution/frame rate do you export your videos in after editing them? Is it optimal to export my edited videos in 4k/60 fps knowing the video will be compressed?
Can't wait to see what you have to say!
Hi @hellohomegirl ! While I don't use Android or iOS for my videos, I do have a bunch of issues when I upload with my Android. For whatever reason, either the video won't upload at all, or the quality isn't very good. Because of that, I upload with my iPhone, but you may want to encode your videos using a third party tool, after that use your desktop to upload. The software is free and open source, I've used it for several years. The file size is reduced and you can experiment with some settings. I'm always happy with the quality.
I don't like placing any offsite links in the PBC, but do a search for 'Handbrake Open Source Video Transcoder". And no, they didn't sponsor this post lol 😀
I hope this helps you
Thank you, @michaelbliss ! I might just deal with the lower quality to be able to access all of the idea pin features on mobile. I'll definitely play around with the program you recommended as well.
I appreciate you sharing your technical knowledge!
I also use handbrake - especially with thinkific where I create some of my courses; it helps a lot.
I have not experienced some of the issues you mentioned on my android. I do, however, I always try to record inside the app (whichever it is) rather than uploading a video.

@bodymindmood Interesting! I'll try recording in app then. I find my third party editor easy to use, but I'll give it a go.
I thought it was a simple 4k vs 1080p/30 vs 60 fps answer to this, but I see it's a little more complex than that. 😅
Thank you for the suggestion!
No problem - I use it to post my videos to Thinkific.
I hope it helps.
