Welcome to Pinterest product sellers! If you have a Merchant account, you’re ready to start pinning! Lucky for you, there are a variety of Pin formats to use to promote your products and blog posts.

Whether you’re new to Pinterest or have been around for a while, knowing the best practices for creating your own Pins will help optimize your content for the best results. Below is a complete resource of these best practices and how to create them for your Pin creation process.

Standard Pins

Pick a vertical image

Use high-quality, vertical images that will stand out in people’s feeds. We recommend a 2:3 aspect ratio (ex: 1000 x 1500 pixels). Other ratios may cause your Pin to truncate or may negatively impact performance.

Make your brand the focal point

Put your product or service front and center. Avoid using abstract images or lifestyle imagery that doesn’t showcase your brand.

Include your logo

Put a logo on every Pin you make, but keep it subtle. Avoid the lower-right corner since that spot gets covered up by our product icons.

Add text overlay

Text overlay is the copy that goes on your Pin image to make it stand out. Keep your copy concise for readability on mobile devices. You should create separate Pins for each country you target, so they can be translated into the local language.

Optimize your Pin copy

Clear titles and descriptions help your Pin get discovered in search. You can use up to 100 characters for your title and up to 500 characters for your description.

Check your links

If your Pin includes a link, check that the link is active and loads quickly. Your Pin’s creative tells people what to expect when they click. Make sure it matches your destination site’s topic and imagery.

Video Pins

Pick a vertical video -

The best dimensions for a Pinterest video are 1200 × 1800 pixels or anything within the standard 2:3 aspect ratio.

Start strong and make it actionable

Lead with a clear hook within the first few seconds to capture people’s attention.

Choose the right length

Make sure your videos clearly and succinctly communicate your ideas. For organic content, we recommend videos between 15 seconds and 1 minute long. For video ads, 6-15 seconds works best.

Show, don’t tell

Some Pinners watch video with sound off, so don’t rely on audio or dialogue. Use text overlay or captions to help tell your story.

Pick a strong cover image

Select a cover image when you upload your video so people can understand what your video is about with just one glance.

Optimize your Pin copy

Clear titles and descriptions help your video get discovered in search. You can use up to 100 characters for your title and up to 500 characters for your description.

Collection Pins

Pick a vertical image

Use high-quality, vertical images that will stand out in people’s feeds. We recommend a 2:3 aspect ratio (ex: 1000 x 1500 pixels). Other ratios may cause your Pin to truncate or may negatively impact performance.

Select the products you wish to feature

Showcase related products to create a collections Pin. You can add up to 25 products from your product catalog or claimed website.

Carousel Pins

A carousel is a Pin with multiple images. Carousels are a great way to showcase different features of a product, advertise multiple products at once, or tell your brand story in chapters.

People see the carousel in their home feed just like any other Pin. They can swipe through the different images (or cards) directly from the feed. Or, they can tap on the carousel and swipe through each card and its corresponding site, essentially swiping through the different landing pages. When someone saves a carousel, they save the entire Pin including all the cards within it.

Rich Pins

Rich Pins show metadata right on the Pin itself, giving Pinners a richer experience and increasing engagement. Information in a Rich Pin is independent of the Pin description, ensuring that important information is always tied to the Pin.

There are 4 types of Rich Pins: app, article, product and recipe Pins. Rich Pins work by displaying metadata from marked up pages on your website. Once you've applied for Rich Pins, any content on your site with metadata will turn into a Rich Pin when a user saves it.
