I have been trying to contact support for weeks to no avail. We have a popular Pinterest profile @coolestparties with 62K followers. For no apparent reason, Pinterest blocked one of our main subdomains that has thousands of pins pointing to it. The message we get is that it was “blocked because it may lead to Spam”. But it doesn’t - our content is very family friendly. For instance, this pin: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/224968943861835931/ leads to http://ideas.coolest-homemade-costumes.com/2014/11/04/coolest-voodoo-doll-couple-costume/. We recently underwent a structural change and all “ideas.coolest…” subdomain redirects to “www.coolest…” , so it just redirects to http://www.coolest-homemade-costumes.com/2014/11/04/coolest-voodoo-doll-couple-costume/. Like I said there are thousands of such pins, here are a few more - just change the “ideas” subdomain to “www” and it works fine:
This is very frustrating. Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.
Hi @coolestparties, welcome to PBC. I looked at your domain and subdomain, the primary is now hosted at Linode and the subdomain is (was) hosted at AWS. My past experience has been redirects from one hosting/DNS provider to another occasionally wakes up the spam filter. You mentioned that you contacted support, did you get a reply yet? I would submit another ticket and ask if they could look at it closer. I had an issue like yours a couple of years ago and support was very prompt in resolving it. I hope this helps you.
Thanks @michaelbliss! Happy to have found PBC. I have been trying to contact support for the past month on several different occasions. Probably 10 times. But every time I submit the form through the Help Center, I get a message that the form has been delivered and that I should receive an email and I never get the email (not in SPAM and anywhere else) nor a response from anyone.
I have another site (coolest-birthday-cakes.com) that has the same setup with the "ideas" subdomain and redirect to "www" and that's working just fine: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/70437471003231/
I really don't know what to do - any idea how else to reach support?
That is great information @michaelbliss and piggy backing here the other thing you can look at which happened to me is you can check your SSL Security on your website - I found that at one point the SSL Security (the lock you see when you go to your site on a browser) was not working and Pinterest didn't go for that if your website isn't secure and you use your site link on created content and pins, but this was actually a problem coming from my host Squarespace they had an unknown issue with the SSL Security (which they fixed) once that was fixed then the website and Pinterest were okay.
I hope this little bit of info will help you.
It seems that ideas.coolest-homemade-costumes.com and ideas.coolest-birthday-cakes.com name servers are provided by AWSDNS, while coolest-homemade-costumes.com and coolest-birthday-cakes.com name servers are provided by Linode. You may want to have Linode provide the cname records on all of your domains.
I don't know why one domain is redirecting and the other is caught in the spam filter, but the Community Guidelines mention that redirects to a different domain can be flagged. If the only thing that changed was applying redirects (301, stealth, etc), to me it appears that could be the cause. I would submit another ticket here and ask if they could escalate the issue, and contact Linode and have them go over the cname records. Understandably, it's very frustrating dealing with this.
@michaelbliss I have submitted so many tickets over the past month and no one ever gets back to me. If anyone from Pinterest Support sees this, then please do help. Otherwise I have no idea what else to do. Thanks!
How Do I Do It?
It has been weeks since I last contacted support. At present, we have 62K followers on our Pinterest account . A key subdomain of our website with thousands of pins pointed towards it was blocked by Pinterest for no apparent reason. Upon using this link, we are told it has been blocked for possible spam reasons. The content of our website doesn't - it's geared towards families. For instance, this pin: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/224968943861835931/ leads to http://ideas.coolest-homemade-costumes.com/2014/11/ /coolest-voodoo-doll-couple-costume/ . During a recent restructuring, the "coolest ideas..." were rewritten.
Hi , welcome to the PBC.
Here is a short video I made about website security Video Link
Check your SSL Certificate from your website to make sure your seeing the lock when your on your site and check each browser.
Please let me know if this helped or not - I hope it does help you.
@coolestparties Hi there.
Can you have a look at this video that I made for another person on the PBC this morning and tell me whether or not your SSL Certificate (the little padlock) is locked or on unlocked on your website.
The video will explain what I am talking about - this happened to me a number of months ago and I discovered by accident that this was the problem.
I hope this can help you.
Please let us know.
