'Conversion source needs attention' - not sure how to proceed

Hello - we're on the quest to become a verified merchant and we've linked our Shopify and Pinterest accounts via the app; the message we receive is 'Conversion source needs attention'.

Our tag health is showing as 'healthy', although under the checkout section there's an amber notice saying 'Too few of the Product IDs included in your Checkout events match the product IDs in your catalogue.' - I'm presuming that this may be the cause of the 'Conversion source...' message, but I can't find any info on how to correct it.

Does anyone have experience with this issue or can anyone offer a pointer or two? Many thanks in advance.

Hi there @gselections, and welcome to the Community!

This error usually appears when the product ID's on the catalog do not match the one's being sent through the Pinterest Tag.

Make sure that the Pinterest Tag is sending the product_id event data and that it matched the id's on the catalogs id field.

Let us know if you were able to solve this!

Hello - many thanks for the welcome, and thanks for helping with my query. As we're using the Pinterest/Shopify app I'd assumed that the product IDs came over with the catalogue ingestion - the Product ID is green ticked under the Page Visit and green ticked under the Add to Basket events in our tag health, it's only the checkout that's showing amber.

Is it possible that just the checkout event is not working, even though the others seem to be?

Many thanks again.

Hi @gselections!

You can go to Ads > Conversions to make sure the checkout is working correctly. If you are having sales and there's no activity on the page, I would recommend reinstalling the Pinterest + Shopify app and making sure no manually implemented tag is on the website.

Please visit here for more details and ensure that your conversion source sends the following in the last 30 days:

1. At least one page visit event
2. At least one add to cart event
3. At least one checkout event
4. Checkout events have currency

A full list of criteria merchants must meet to be eligible for the VMP program can be found in this Help Center article.

I hope this helps. Feel free to contact us if you have any further questions!

Hello - thanks once again; forgive the question if it's obvious, but is the Pinterest + Shopify app installation the conversion source? Do I need to add more manually to make sure conversions report properly?

Hi @gselections!

In this case, your Conversion source refers to the Pinterest Tag. Since your Pinterest Tag was installed automatically with the Pinterest + Shopify app, if any issue arises, you'll need to address them taking into consideration this app.

If you're having sales and you're not seeing any Checkouts when you visit Ads > Conversions on your Pinterest account, there might be an issue with your Pinterest Tag installation. To solve this issue, we recommend reinstalling the app.

Bear in mind that this app works best by itself, without any manually implemented code on the website. If you don't have any manually implemented Pinterest Tag code on the website, you don't need to worry about it and just need to reinstall the app.

Let me know if there’s something else I can help you with!

Hi there - once again, many thanks for your help, it's very much appreciated.

We definitely don't have any manually implemented tag code on the site, so it looks like reinstallation is the way to go - can I install over the top of the existing app, or is better to delete it and start again?

Hi @gselections!

It is best to delete and start again. You can do that by doing the following:

  • On Shopify go to Settings > Apps & Sales Channel
  • Click on "Uninstall" for the Pinterest App
  • On Pinterest, go to your Profile and click "Edit Profile", this will lead you to the Settings. After that, click on the Security and Logins tab and click the "Revoke Access" on the Pinterest +  Shopify App.

Give us a shout if you have any other questions!

Hello - after everything working well since this thread was last updated, I now have a message when I log in - Conversion source needs attention.

I can't see what I need to  - I'm using the Pinterest + Shopify app still, and up until now it's been fine. Can anyone suggest what I can look at please? Thanks in advance.

EDIT - I've just done an app reset to see if that helps

Hey @gselections, ensure that your conversion source sends the following in the last 30 days:

1. At least one page visit event
2. At least one add to cart event
3. At least one checkout event
4. Checkout events have currency

Bear in mind that even if one of these are missing, you'll continue to get the conversion source issue.

Give us a shout if you need anything!
