How to Use Keywords on Pinterest

How to Use Keywords on Pinterest

Using keywords (Pinterest's SEO or search engine optimization is essential to effectively market on Pinterest as it's a visual search engine. Optimizing your Pinterest with relevant keywords is key for increasing your reach on Pinterest. (getting found by your ideal client).

There are a couple main ways to find keywords which I'll share below, but note that you should create a Keyword List (try using a google doc) so you have all those keywords at hand when you are creating pins.  This way, you can immediately know which keywords are best and you can use a variety of them on different pins to cover all your bases.

Here are some ways to find keywords:

Manual Research

The first method for doing keyword research is using the Pinterest search bar directly and seeing what drops down. Start typing keywords and see what shows up in the drop-down menu. Write down or note any keywords or keyword phrases that will be relevant to your audience and content.

You can also do the alphabet soup method for additional recommendations. For example, if you are a wedding photographer and write about wedding photography, type ‘wedding photography a’ to see what auto-completes, then type ‘wedding photography b’ and continue through the whole alphabet. The downside to this method is that super time-consuming as you are doing things manually.

Pinterest Trends Tool

The Pinterest Trends Tool is an excellent tool for seeing how your keywords are currently trending on Pinterest and if there are any other relevant trending keywords you can use. They just updated the Pinterest Trends tool so you can now filter in so many ways!

You can also combine this tool with the manual type of research to figure out great keywords to use. This tool is incredible to determine the best time of year for some keywords.

I hope this helps! I've love to hear in the comments what your main keyword is and the volume.

Informative article

But how do we use keywords in pin description? Do we need to add # or it can be just a copy with no #, only informative copy with no # ?

tirestalks

In the case of hashtags, there is a separate space available while creating a pin, so I don't think #tags will work in the description but the second thing is that available #tags in specific places are very few to none.

@tirestalks yes, that's new. Finally one update that is actually good and useful.
